Rapid City
Rapid City was the working title for a major development on the tear drop site at the back of the main railway station in York on land owned by the National Museum of Science and Industry as part of the Railway Museum complex. Stephen acted as Development Director for the project for NMSI, working for Lindsay Sharp and Janet Carding, then head of the Planning and Development Unit and now Head of the Royal Ontario Museum. With architects Fletcher Priest, Imagination exhibition designers, Ben Morris from Vector-Foiltec (who built the airship for Magna) and Dutch architects West 8.
Stephen acted as Development Director in 2002-2003. It was a project that Andrew took over.
York Central
In his role as Head of Projects for the National Museum of Science and
Industry, Andrew was responsible for the museum’s role in delivering NMSI’s
part of the York Central development. Planning and
development of the project proceeded successfully until the scheme was halted
in 2009 when landowners Network Rail, Yorkshire Forward and the National
Railway Museum suspended their search for a developer in the face of the credit
crunch. The project will be developed again when the development environment
improves. A £750,000,000 scheme.
