Diana: a Princess Remembered - AV Installation

When I was designing the exhibition, HRP provided us with access to BBC footage. These video segments were projected onto the walls at Kensington Palace, with no text or explanation. This worked exceptionally well. Why? It left plenty of space for the viewer to create their own narrative, and for each visitor, the material was richly layered with meaning. It's also worth noting that what appears to be the continuous narrative of history on the day, as seen on television in 1981, is, in itself, a pure construction. It reads as a seamless semantic whole, but in fact, it is an ideological cultural artefact. What you're seeing is anthropological evidence of a country that is not a Republic.
